Description

This is a semi-continuation of a story-arc for Badoma branching after Event 4 and right before Mission 5.

WARNING: Lots of text.

-------------------------------------

The dark blast faded after a moment and things settled quietly in the tree. “Badoma?! Are you okay?” Garret asked as he had jumped up after the explosion from the mysterious package.

“Please don’t be bad, please don’t be bad, please don’t be bad…” the Sneasel Rafael muttered in a worry.

Badoma took a deep breath as she shook her head back into focus. “I… I’m okay. I wasn’t… I wasn’t expecting that…” she mumbled out before she returned to the package. A dark aura surrounded it as she approached it. She opened it carefully and pulled out the contents: a dark gem necklace made of black pearls with a large unrefined gemstone as dark as night set in the center. It released an eerie energy that seemed to react to the Misdreavus, passing to and from her form.

The three others in the room looked at it in fear and wonder. Rafe was still worried, Garret was curious, and Ren the Lucario stared at the object with concern.

“Badoma… what is that?” Garret finally asked after several minutes.

“It’s a, uh… Dark Stone Necklace,” she said knowingly. “Misdreavus’ need them to evolve into Mismagius… but I’ve never seen one before, and never this… amazing!”

“Someone must like you a lot,” Ren added in with a slight smile.

Badoma shook her head. “But… I don’t even know what to do with this…” she muttered. “Rafe… where did you get this?” She asked. A look of worry started to creep onto her face.

He paled slightly at the question. “I… can’t say.”

“W-why not?” she pleaded. Not knowing was starting to get to her.

“Badoma, don’t worry about-“ “NO!” Garret started to speak but was cut off by the aggravated ghost-type. “I NEED to know!”

“H-he told me not to…” Rafe stumbled out as he bit down on his lip.

“Rafe! Please!” she shouted out, on the verge of crying. “I… I need to…” Tears began to well in her eyes.

Rafael sulked downward. “He said he’d haunt my dreams… till the day I die…” he whimpered lowly.

At the statement, Badoma froze. Tears streamed down her face, but none followed. Her expression was full of surprise and shock. She dropped the necklace to the ground and stumbled back slightly. “I-I… I need a minute,” she muttered out before she quickly flew out of the tree.

Garret was stunned. He had never seen Badoma act that way, let alone get that worked up. He looked to the Sneasel and asked, “Rafe, what’s going on?”

He looked worried, his hands clenched in each other and his face pale. “I don’t… I don’t know…” was all he was able to mutter out.

“Who did you get the necklace from?” Garret pushed.

“The package…? I didn’t know it was going to be a necklace… I’m so… so sorry... Ah! Ren, where are you-“ Before he could finish, the Lucario had already jumped out of the window.

“It’s okay…” Garret said with a sigh. “Can you tell me what happened?”

“I was… destroying some trees… I was so frustrated and angry…” Rafe started to mumble. “And then someone started talking to me…” He looked up to Garret, who clearly looked like he wanted to know more.” 'He told me to give her this package… and not to tell her who it was from... But if it hurts her, I can’t keep that secret, even if he does haunt my dreams...” He took the goggles off and looked at them. “You guys really are good friends... best friends…”

Ren followed Badoma through the forest quietly and quickly. He kept his distance; stopping when she did, watching to see where she went. The trail finally stopped at a large, old tree. The twisted roots of the tree made it impossible for anything larger than a Joltik to pass through, unless someone could pass through solid objects.

Ren sat outside the tree and waited patiently. The sobbing soon quieted to a sniffle when he finally spoke softly. “Badoma…” There was no response. “Badoma,” he said louder.

“W-what?” came a sheepish mutter from within the tree.

“Listen… Please tell me why you are crying?” he asked kindly. “It is a gift. It has not hurt you… in fact, it will help you.”

“I know… but it’s the way I got it that hurt…” she said slightly clearer than before. “It hurts inside… because I… I know who it’s from…”

“Come out here, please,” he asked softly. It took her a minute, but she finally came out of the tree. Ren opened his arms, inviting a hug, and she flew into it. She let out a couple more sobs before settling for good. “There, there… Now, who sent it to you? Would you like me to find them, bring them here? Give them pain? Anything.”

She shook her head as she pulled away from the hug. “N-no! I don’t want him hurt. Ever. It’s... it’s from my… d-da…” She had difficulty saying that last part, and to not start crying again.

“I see… And you are happy to receive it? Know he lives?” Ren asked searchingly.
“Yeah… but I’m angry too,” Badoma answered quietly. “Angry he didn’t give it to me himself. Angry he’s been in town after so many years, and doesn’t see me…” She sounded like she was about to start crying again.

He pulled her into another hug. “Trust me. I’m sure he had his reasons.”

She let out a deep breath and nodded. “I… I hope…” she muttered. She looked in the direction of the home, and then back to Ren. “I’m… I’m ready to go back now.”.
